| Short-term training courses have been organized by the ITC since early 2005. These courses focus on capacity strengthening of related health professionals on the essential knowledge and experience of effective program management and advances/updates of approaches and interventions on prevention and care of AIDS, TB and STIs. Summaries of the courses to be offered are given below. Please see the ITC calendar and course announcement for more information on the training dates, venue and closing date for application. |

1. International Training Workshop for Management on HIV/AIDS Treatment and Care Among Health Workers in Greater Mekong Basin Countries Related health professionals and HIV AIDS program managers will need to keep up with the knowledge on advances in treatment, particularly ARV management and care of the HIV/AIDS people in their countries so that they will be able to plan the appropriate service programs and interventions for their specific situation and needs. This ten-day training workshop is designed to strengthen the knowledge of the health personnel so that they understand and can manage the many issues involved. |

| The contents of course include ARV national policy and management, role of community and NGO in the HIV/AIDS community based care, appropriate ARV program, laboratory diagnosis, counseling, country experiences and field visits. The teaching methods used are lectures, presentation of country experiences, discussions, group practice/work, field visit. Participants will receive certificate of attendance at the end of the training course for satisfactory participation in the course. |

2. International Course on Tuberculosis Control, Epidemiology, Surveillance and Basis of TB Control Programme Since TB remains to be one of the major infections impacting many countries in the whole Asia Region, this three-week international training course on tuberculosis control were designed for the public health officers, provincial or district TB coordinators, disease control officers, medical doctors and nurses who are charged with direct responsibility of TB control, treatment and training in the government health offices and service facilities. |

| The course covers such topics as the principles of TB control, surveillance and program monitoring, organization of the national program, principles and application of DOTS strategy, case management, relationship and impact of HIV and TB, research methodology, TB control in special setting, i.e. prison, lab diagnosis and quality assurance, analysis of surveillance data, designing program of action and field visits. |

| The teaching methods consist of lectures, TB program presentations, problem exercises, field studies and reporting, computer training, individual assignment and discussions and summary. At the end of the course, a certificate of attendance will be given. |
